Soft brake pedal

Hi all,

This afternoon I went to start my truck after it had sat for about 3 weeks. After it warmed up I went to put it in gear and the brake pedal has no resistance at all. I checked the brake fluid and it was at the normal level. The brakes worked great before it sat so I have no idea what could have happened. Any suggestions would be great. It is a 1971 c10 with manual brakes.

Thanks

Make sure a dog hasn't chewed through your brake lines. I've seen it happen.

Look for brake fluid anywhere along the lines or at the wheel brakes. Also check the master cylinder inside the cab and out. That fluid had to go somewhere. The whole system should be dry.

Re: Soft brake pedal

There appeared to be a small amount of fluid coming out of one of the lines from the master cylinder. No more appeared when pumping the brakes. There is some braking power but not much. I am thinking that I should try bleeding brakes and see what happens.

Clean the area where you saw the fluid and keep checking for any wetness. If you see any sign of fluid re-tighten the flare fitting and re-bleed.
