Longhorn RPO Questions
 

I'm looking at a 1969 C20 Longhorn and it has a a couple options I'd like some detail on. It shows UY1 Camper Wiring and I'd like to know what that included. Is it the trailer wiring to the rear of the truck or something else. It also says Z81 Camper Nameplate. On the fenders just above the 396 badges it says "Custom Camper 20 " so I'm asking is that what the Z81 Camper Nameplate refers to? I like the truck but it doesn't have the factory gauge package and why someone would order a BB Longhorn without a gauge package behooves me.

You're correct on both. Camper wiring ran to behind the cab. Mine was zip tied and hung over the front of the box. And camper nameplate got you the custom camper emblems. Weird it doesn't have gauges but I've seen a 70 cst without gauges too

UY1 dumped a slide-in camper pigtail out between cab and bed as mentioned above - it did not go to the rear of the truck for a trailer. And in 65-71, Z81 meant the camper nameplate (65 was a 1 year only emblem, 66-68 types were the same, then 69-71 were the same) replaced the fender trim emblem. In 72, Z81 moved to the stand-alone above-the-door-handle script location. I wouldn't hesitate at all to convert that thing to a gauge package dash Greg - and I don't think it would hurt originality value at all. Yeah, it would bug me a little that the original guy didn't order it, but I'm pretty sure I'd get over it. Sounds like a nice truck.

Even though my truck was equipped with the camper wiring option I decided to build my own because I wanted it at the back of the truck for a trailer, not up at the cab for a camper. Also I wanted a full 7-wire setup, which they don't give you. Not relevant for originality, but if you're going the original route it might not be as practical/useful as you'd like.
