72 C10 w/350
I had a leaking mechanical fuel pump replaced it with an AC Delco and once I run the truck, not even 3 minutes running it shuts down. Two pumps in and it keeps breaking the internals on the pump. The pump levers have no tension when I take them out after the replacement.

Are you sure you've got the pump lever positioned on the push rod correctly?

yes. I removed the bolt also used a flat screwdriver to hold the rod up while I installed the pump and then removed the screw driver, put back in the bolt and it did start and run for a few minutes both times I replaced the pump. Then all of a sudden it cuts off and I remove the pump and the lever is dead and I'm able to move it up and down like nothin....
I'm lost guys.... Posted via Mobile Device |

Leave the bolt out!

Question about leaving the bolt out. Will it leak oil?

My last sbc didn't. Easy test to leave it out. If it cures your problem and you're worried about it leaking, just shorten it a 1/2 inch. |

ill try that in a few days and see what happens. Thanks for the advice. But in the back of my mind I'm thinking why didn't I have this problem with the original on ?
All that happened with the original was it was leaking fuel . I guys I like to know what causes problem and not just being a parts changer.. I'll keep you posted on what the results are Posted via Mobile Device |
UPDATE:::::
I ordered a new pump from Autozone and yes I know they always seem to screw up but for the first time they did me righteous. $23 and I used the same procedure to install the new one and that sucker went in like butter. 30 minutes and she turned over in no time. Left it running for 30 minutes and damn she sounds good.. now to take it for a drive.... Posted via Mobile Device |
