Late model AC swap in 72 C10
Hey guys, I found a similer post to my question, but I need some more info. I am currently doing a 98 vortec swap into a 72 c10 and I am swapping AC system too. Before I cut the evaporator box to fit the 98 evap. is there different make, model or year that is closer to the specs of my 72 evap.? I am looking for a closer fit, so little fab work has to be done. Thanks in advance.

Evaporator for an 87 fits right in there.

I'm using the serpentine drive setup off of a early 90's full size truck with the R4 compressor, stock hose assy, stock condenser, stock accumulator (all for that year). the orifice tube fits into the stock pipe, you can place the OT up near the condensor or back before the evaporator. GM did it both ways, I prefer nerar the evaporator. You can play with different orifice tubes to "fine tune", I start with the stock one & it usually works. I like to see 38° at the center duct & can acheive this most of the time. In 96 Gm switched to metric fittings, you can mix or match these parts but may have to build custom hoses ore replace hose ends to match the fittings. There are a couple of different versions of teh evaporator, same dimensions but the exit tube is shaped differently. The one listed below is curved & moves the accumulator away from the engine toward the pass side fender Car Quest part #'s (may be old #'s, may need to cross reference) Evaporator T54275 hose assy T56155 pipe (from condenser to evaporator) 15-33084 will have to bend/shorten/lengthen (or just custom build) orifice tube fits in this accumulator T33219 orifice tube T38638 R4 compressor (some will have different heights where the hose maifold bolts on) condenser - mid 90's full size GM |

Every fitting on mine worked. I went to 134A and never looked back. The drier up front I ditched for the acumalator on the vaperator.Put the orfice tube in the lower line at the fittings under the battery. Works great.:chevy:
