Proper set of Pictures at last
4 Attachment(s)
This truck "followed me home" in mid September, but for various reasons, I did not get a proper set of pictures till today. Where I live (BC), there is a collector vehicle registration and insurance program, so I took these pictures for my application for the program. Probably going to take three posts to get them all up, but here goes.
First, a three or four general shots of the beast: |

Re: Proper set of Pictures at last
This was a lucky find. That's 47 year-old paint, with the odd touch up by the previous owner. This is a "grandpa" truck, with hardly any options, no power steering, no power brakes, rubber floor mat, no cigarette lighter, no door switches for the dome light, etc. Sort of a farm truck that never spent any time on the farm.
I get lots of thumbs up when I take it out, it gets really lousy gas mileage, and it's a bot of a beast to drive in tight quarters, but it's a throwback to a time when vehicles were a lot simpler, easier to work on, and had more personality. There'a a weird fuel tank in the box, not hooked up at the present time, and only held in by the pipe out the bottom, and the filler neck through the side of the box. Not sure what I will do with it, but if I want to use it, it has to be cleaned out, and hooked up, maybe with the electric switch that was used on the square bodies. It obviously has some paint flaws, and I'd like to get rid of the hooks on the box and the camper mirrors, but that would mean messing with that original paint, which is probably not the wisest move. Any how, I always enjoy looking at the pictures that other guys post of their trucks, and wanted to show mine off. Thanks for looking. |
Re: Proper set of Pictures at last
That's a time capsule! Looks even better than the first pics you posted.
Any chance you can post a close-up of the rectangular white decal under the VIN tag? Mine has a decal like that (near the bottom of the door jamb) but it's smeared and illegible except for part of " Oshawa". I'd like to get a new one made. Thanks. |

Anyway, if there's the sticker you want on my truck, I'll take a photo and post it. |
Re: Proper set of Pictures at last
Looks like you have found a really nice truck there. Nice clean trucks around here are getting hard to find.

Gillnetter and Ratty69: It would be nice to meet up for coffee, and a chance to look over each other's trucks sometime. I'm retired, so pretty flexible about when and where. I could even "host" and provide coffee or beer, depending on the time of day ;-)

Re: Proper set of Pictures at last
My Dad in Sask had a base GMC 910 in that same color from new for nearly 30 years until he passed away. Your pics brought back quite a few memories and I'll be saving a few!

Re: Proper set of Pictures at last
Dude, what's your secret bait? I can never get anything that nice (not to mention in the perfect color) to follow me home. I must smell of POR15 and it must attract rust. GMC to boot. Man that's like winning the lottery. Enjoy your score.

That is one very nice original truck you have

Re: Proper set of Pictures at last
Thanks to all for the compliments. Yes, I was happy to find this one, but boy, do I wish it had a few more options, such as the Custom package or better, AC, PS, and the list goes on.
I've walked or driven by this truck for a year and a half, before I bumped into the owner (actually the executor of the estate), and struck up a conversation with her. We agreed on a price within a minute or so, and she was extremely happy that someone would "take care of it", as it was her dad's and her grandad's truck before she ended up in custody of it. Can't have it all, I guess. Just going to enjoy this one for what it is, a work truck that never had to work. |

Thank you very much! Now to find a shop willing and able to make one ( and other decals too )... As far as being low-optioned, that's easily changed if you want. Upgrading the steering and brakes to power won't affect your eligibility for collector plates. BTW, have you posted your spid in the spid thread? |
