Florida Assembled from parts
Anybody have experience with the "assembled from parts" title stuff in florida? I'll call the dmv tomorrow but just wanted to ask here to in case someone has dealt with it.

Re: Florida Assembled from parts
If you're buying a vehicle "assembled from parts" be sure the previous owner completed the process and the vehicle has been issued a new title. If the process hasn't been completed you're buying someone else's headache at best. Getting details from your local DMV regarding registering a salvaged vehicle is a must. Some states are more specific as to the reason a vehicle was salvaged but assembled from parts falls into the salvaged vehicle category as the requirements to put it back on the road are basically the same.

Re: Florida Assembled from parts
Its for my truck, replaced the frame so I guess technically I'm supposed to do this assembled from parts crap.

Re: Florida Assembled from parts
If you have the title to the cab then why would need another title to just replace the frame?
|
Re: Florida Assembled from parts
I would not do it. If the VIN on the cab matches the VIN on the title, I'd leave well enough alone.

Re: Florida Assembled from parts
Yep screw that, I wont be doing it. The DMV doesn't even check VIN tags when issuing a license plate here so I will leave that can of worms closed.

Good choice !!!

Re: Florida Assembled from parts
If you still have the old frame, cut out the portion that has the numbers on it and save it. If you have a receipt of any kind for your new to you frame save that too, which btw would be required for the "assembled from parts" certification process. If you're afraid of having to defend yourself in a court of law these things will help you.
Personally I wouldn't do it either. It'll forever be on your title reducing the trucks value and it's unlikely that anyone will ever find out the frame was replaced anyway. |
Re: Florida Assembled from parts
I just go by the cab VIN and use that title. I've never had a frame VIN checked for inspection, but I guess states vary. Here in MD, during safety inspection (by licensed shop), the door jamb plate gets checked to match title and MVA (DMV) never looks at the vehicle. Register historic and nobody looks at nothing, no inspection required. I have also never had a cop look at my VIN, just hand them license and registration card.
Open that can of worms and you may go home with no fish from th first can! |
Re: Florida Assembled from parts
All you did was frame work , dont get started with them , dot-tax collector , they are impossible to deal with , IE "government employees" , yes been there done that , in floriDA , on a rebuild title
