Steering wheel restore
Anybody restore steering wheels? I have 2 that I would like to have restored and maybe cut and sized down a few inches. They are not in the greatest shape, the base where they attach is cracked and badly warped for some reason

Re: Steering wheel restore
I have started doing some steering wheel restoration but there is a thing called to far gone. As far as sizing one down I have not tried this yet but it is in my radar to give it an attempt. I know it has been done. Post some pics of what you have to work with. :mm:

Re: Steering wheel restore
I know Eastwood sells a steering wheel repair kit. They usually have good products might be worth checking out.

Re: Steering wheel restore
So, I've been reading over the old posts, and I have the same questions.
POR-15's kit is no more. So that's out. Is Eastwood's kit worth the work? What other options are out there, without having to send the wheel out for resto, or getting a repop? What is working long-term? |
Re: Steering wheel restore
If you are looking to pay someone to restore your wheel I think it will cost some $$$. If you have the tools and knowledge try it yourself by reading up in it. I just redid mine and the materials are cheap but it took a lot of hours sanding and filling to get it right.
I have not cut one down but did read about it. I thought about doing but after mine was done glad I didn't try it. |

Re: Steering wheel restore
It is the same epoxy as the kit you just are not paying for all the other bs you do not need or may already have on your shelf ;)

Re: Steering wheel restore
By the time you get done spending the money for that kit, not to mention the amount of TIME it will take, you can buy a new repop for less.
