69 gmc

I have the chance to buy a 1969 gmc short bed step side southern truck for a great deal but, I love the grill and headlights 68, 69 and 70 chevy c10. If i buy the truck whats the chances of changing the grill and headlights with out a ton of modification? Thank you for the assistance in advance and excited to step out of muscle car into a sweet truck.

I assume you are saying you want to convert to the 68 from 69 ? If so it is a great deal of work you must change fenders, hood, radiator support and grille

Hey farmer71 ...

:welcome2: to the forums and :hi:

Would love to see pics of your future (I hope) truck.

As mentioned - lots of works and some expense would be involved to do the transition.

.. obviously I agree with ReoKeene.
I like '67-'68 slant nose Chevys a LOT but wouldn't change the cap on my GMC even if I had all the parts.

Buy it. Drive it. Let the GMC front grow on you. I think I prefer the 71-72 Chevy over the earlier Chevy fronts, but I'm not changing my '69. It looks great in it's own way.

And I wish my Chevy was a GMC but it is what it is.

Can't believe you haven't bought it already and posted pics of it with this question...

It would be easiest to convert to a 68. I have done it. You need the hood, grill, and radiator support. The fenders on a 69 GMC are the same as 68 Chevy fenders. When I did it is had a local shop use their scan gun to match my paint and they painted my hood and grill while they were off the truck. All-in-all it was a fairly easy project.

Buying a classic car/truck is often a compromise. If this is a good deal on a solid truck buy it. You may later regret if you don't. I have a 70 Chevy lwb and a 72 GMC swb and love both. The cool thing about GMC is you just don't see them as often and for me the front end has more of a ''muscle car look'' to it. Check this site for picture threads, they may grow on you.

Hey, I totally 100% understand that. I personally think the 69-70 Chevy Grill has the best look of this era of truck. But that is my biased opinion. I like the 67-68 chevy look next best. I think the biggest hurdle that you are going to face is the fenders. It's not really as easy as just changing the grill.

Look at an LMC catalog and see whats different. Some stuff says Chevy/GMC and some are specific.

Thanx for all the input guys. Very encouraging to be part of a forum with decent guys. Up here in new York there are very few gmc's especially short bed step side. I think it will grow on me. Gonna buy it this weekend and post some pics soon. Thanx
