build it or look for a better starting point?
 

Hi guys, i'm looking for an opinion from some of you C10 experts.
Ive got a basic bare bones SWB original paint 72 c10 with a swapped in LS & M22 four speed. It has the usual rot (cab corners, rockers, passenger rad support, bottom of fenders) but the floors and bed are super solid. Iv got the opportunity to purchase a complete set of OEM Cheyenne super body moldings for a decent price. The set is far from mint so it would match the condition that my truck is already in. Is it worth it to collect all the pieces required to turn a base model truck into a top level? Or is it better to just look for a better starting point truck closer to where I want to end up with a real YE9 thats of similar condition (Daily drivable). Im located in Ontario, Canada so Trucks with original paint and dry floors are a lot harder to find up here then down in the southern states. Although I would be willing to travel Should a good deal appear.

Any parts I would buy would be in similar condition to my truck so that nothing would really look out of place. Ive also included some pics so you can see what i'm working with. Thanks!

Its an original unchopped swb? Knowing how hard they are to come by up here there is no way I would let it go..but thats just my opinion.

You're pulling our leg, right? I'd drive the wheels off it exactly as it sits. Nice truck.

Yes unchopped, I know thats my dilemma I know just how hard they are to find up here

I would definitely sell it to someone like me and keep looking ---- Just pulling your leg --- Your truck is a rare find keep it and drive the wheels off of it.

BTW, I've never seen that many dandelions in one place before!

I would drive it as is or rebuild it as base. The only thing I might would chance would be the bumpers, I think chrome bumpers would look nice if you did restore it.

Thanks for the responses!!! I know that if I was to go through with a build that it wouldn't happen over night and it would take some time to find the all the right parts to match the patina. I'm heading out this Saturday to see the molding set and depending on what I see Ill decide on which path to take.

Unless you know of another truck that's exactly what you want I'd build what you have so you're not kicking yourself in the ass after looking at 10 trucks in worse off shape for way more money.

Take a drive out to Oshawa/Courtice area out to 'Bill's Truck Shop'. He specializes in these old trucks and he will help you get set up with what you need and give you some insight on how to do it.
He is a really good guy...and after one trip, you will probably be back.

I have actually been out there to his place before. Great shop he's got going, picked up some of the parts I needed to convert to 4 speed from him. Thanks for your input!

Build it into what you want. Mine started off as a base truck and I built it the way I wanted it. I get lots of compliments and people offer to buy it all the time. Not many of them in Ontario.

I think it is sometimes better to keep what you have you know the ins and outs of it vs getting into someone's else's mess.
