Longhorns what to do with them
 

I'm seeing more and more now days people are avoiding the longhorn trucks.I have to ask most of you why are you junking them out.They happen to be the one truck that can be the easiest converted then a short bed pick up and is way easier to convert to 1/2 ton One thing that all Longhorns have in common.They are ALL a leaf spring rear end.You know you can use any of the 1/2 ton rear ends from a 1971 -1987 chevy trucks.I've talked to CCP they Make a spindle that uses the 3/4 ton ball joint That's where you get your disc brakes from.The trucks from 1967-69 longhorns that have drum all the way around you need to get the converter Valve for disc and drum and you can get them from the 1973--87 trucks.I know a few people cringe at the thought of changing a factory truck .But guys in the Blazer do it 4X4 to 2 wheel drive guys taking 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks and turning them in the short bed fleet sides.Why not turn that extra long truck into a 1/2 ton.Makes more sense

Someone would be very sorry about chopping up that quite rare longhorn toolbox truck.

As for why folks are parting them out - depending on condition, they assess the parts to be worth more than the sale price for the whole truck. As for cutting a longhorn down to a 1/2 ton, Sacrilege... But, if you want to sell those slots, just let me know!

I'd definitely buy the tool box out of that bed side or the whole bed if I could get it here. Any Longhorns I found in my area, they are all rotted out. I will agree, I know of about 10 that have gotten the axe and turned into SWB trucks. Why, because a lot of them were big block trucks and had a lot of options. And most people these days want a short bed.

Heck, I ain't in that camp! One of the only other trucks I'd like to have is a '68 Longhorn with a I-6 diesel (maybe Perkins) and all HD equipment as a highway tow queen.

Yea I would say I am going to stick to my guns on this one. The trim around the tool box is a non production item any where.

Lets have a vote, Keep it or Trash it!

I wish my truck was a longhorn...

Trucks are for hauling and the longer the bed, the more you can haul.

I would install the headlights, front bumper, air the tires and drive! Definitely keep it. It has style!!
