AC Compressor Super Heat Switch
My A/C Compressor is starting to make some noise, I am thinking about replacing it with Old Air ProTEN A6 upgrade compressor. My System is currently running R12 and not wanting to change to 134a, not sure what compressor i need S.H (super heat) or H.P (high pressure). Any thoughts on this compressor or other suggestions. Can i visually see the difference in these two compressors what do i look for? Thanks

Re: AC Compressor Super Heat Switch
Do you have a link to the choices? There is no wiring in your truck for either switch so it likely doesn't matter.
just a fyi, that compressor is a Denso based compressor available from a variety of outlets. I think I caught mine on sale for around 2 bills. |
Re: AC Compressor Super Heat Switch
I have been told that an a6 will leak at the seal sooner than later. An a10 looks like and and bolts up to stock mounts. Leddzepp posted a pic and a part number on another thread of a kit from auto zone that includes a10, dryer and oil for $300 something. Look for a thread here called " factory ac, what to do" it has some good info and the part number for the a10

Looks like the A10 is the same as the Pro6TEN A6 Upgrade that Old Air Products carries.
These are my two options: Part# [21-2201SH] $345.00 Pro6TEN, A6 Upgrade, S.H., 1 Groove, Natural Aluminum Replaces Super Heat and Plain Head Applications [21-2201HP] $345.00 Pro6TEN, A6 Upgrade, H.P., 1 Groove, Natural Aluminum Replaces High Pressure and Plain Head Applications They said if my compressor has "Super Heat" use part#21-2201SH if not use part #21-2201HP. I don't know if it has super heat switch or not and does it matter? I think it must if they offer both for sale. Is one for R-12 and one for 134A? |
Re: AC Compressor Super Heat Switch
The high temperature or superheated switch is just a protection high temperature sensor on the back of the pump. Shuts the compressor off if condenser pluggedwith dirt. Was used on a lot of farm machinery don't think it was ever on these trucks.

Re: AC Compressor Super Heat Switch
I bought the 4Seasons/Everco/A/C Compressor part No.58098 It looks like the one in your picture. I ordered it from autozone, it was the first of june. There was a 20% code I used it was ROAD20 I paid $266.00 shipped to my door. The compressor is working great on my 72. I just checked they have a new code SUN20

Re: AC Compressor Super Heat Switch
I was unsure and a little confused about the High Pressure vs. Super Heat Switch. I'll look into the Autozone Compressor, Thank's

Hack71. I used the old air version, works great. Make sure you are going through the whole system, replacing what you can...flush what you can't. I also rebuilt the entire system in my '71 and kept it R12 (I have a large stash). Works great. |
