Lokar Shift Linkage Fit?
 

I need to replace the shift linkage on my 72 truck. I've heard some people say the rod is to short, others it seems to work out ok. Will the Lokar Shift Linkage (ACA-1800) fit a stock 72 GMC SWB 2wd truck?

Well I'll start by saying I have no experience with the kit, but I've also read that the rod that comes with the kit is too short. I have read that they sell an extra length rod. hopefully someone can chime in with first hand experience.

I have used the Lokar ACA-1800 on 4 ls conversions with the 4l60e transmissions....engine mounted in the stock sbc holes and I haven't had a problem. I had to heat up one of the rods and put a bend in it for smoother operation. They are good quality kits. Tried the CPP version once.....I would spend the extra money and buy the Lokar unit.

I had one on my 700R4 with the engine sitting in the rearward 6-cyl location. I needed a bend in it, and just used some tubing benders to get the angle I needed. I also actually trimmed some off, so I don't see how it's too short. My only complaint is there's nothing to dampen the vibration and the column would rattle at idle. If I were to do again, I'd use the cable shifter linkage.

I had one in my LS-swapped 72, used it with a 4L60E. The rod was *just* long enough to work, if I'd had a say an inch longer would have been nice. The clamp at the bottom was just barely engaged with the end of the rod.

'72 4x4 with a TH700R4 moved forward 2".

Rod was still too short.

I called Lokar and remember the longer rod being around $20
