Questions on my v3500 crew cab

Hello everyone. Picked up an 87 gmc crew cab but it came with a 427 on a stand. Tall deck. Holley double pumper but the truck should have had a 454 Tbi. Probably a stupid question but can I mount the tbi carb on the tall deck or do I need a lot more?

I believe I remember the tall deck intakes to be different than standard BB intakes ?? Seems like they made a wedge kit or something like that to adapt them ? I would think the components for the tbi would take some work to adapt to tall block intake. some of the later 366 tall decks might be tbi also. that may be an option. Sorry I guess that wasn't all that much help for you

few ways to do this .

but tbi will need a chip burnt for it to run best .

you sure its a 427 tall deck and not a 366 tall deck . . . . :smoke:

if a 27 tall deck find a race car guy and sell to him to build a 540cid stroker motor .

then buy a 454 tbi motor and be done .

I agree, just get a 454. The wrecking yards around me are somewhat loaded with them lately since everybody is picking up all the Ls stuff. I can get a complete with everything (complete takeout) Gen6 454 engine for about 4-500 dollars

Great comments thanks. What is the 427 worth? Enough for a 454? What year tbi do I need?

For reference the early TBI big blocks used a quadrajet intake and an adapter plate to the TBI flange. If you’ve got a qudrajet intake on the tall deck then putting the TBI on it should be a matter of putting the bolts in the holes with the correct sealing media between the parts. :c2:

Small world, huh? Here's to its safe return. It's not exactly 'incognito.'

Yes. It was taken after I bought it. I have the title and bill of sale. I went to pick it up but it was gone. Hopefully it will turn up. I loved the truck. Was going to be the hunting truck. Thanks for watching out for it.
