Fuel gauge needle bouncing

Does anyone know what causes and how to cure a bouncing fuel gauge? It makes it a little difficult to see how much fuel is left without sitting still....lol.

If it is a rapid bouncing, replace the gauge. I think there is a way to fix one, but for the $5 it cost for a replacement from my local pull-a-part, wasn't worth trying.

Mine does this too. Coupled with the other odd gremlins that my cluster seems to have, I have been assuming the gauge pack just needs to be grounded better. That hasn't motivated me to fix it or anything, don't be ridiculous haha! May be worth a shot though.

In old trucks, it maybe caused by bad ground at the sending unit or bad gauge, if you know basic electricity you can check, remove the the gauge and do a direct test to it, by hooking a ground & power from the battrey to the gauge and see if the needles move full deflection. If it moves and stay fully defected then gauge is ok, that tells you’ve bad ground at the sending unit, if it keep bouncing then bad gauge. I hope this help. Capt J.
