Installing 2inch drop coils in 71 c-10, do I seat the top of the spring in it's pocket and let the bottom set where it sets? The top and bottom of the spring will not, both, set in the pockets on stock control arms.

I think you should seat the coil in the lower arm. The top is just an open pocket I think that won't index it. I could be wrong it's been awhile but that's what I recall

Look up inside the top pocket. It should have a flat side that lines up with a stock spring. Not sure if after market springs have this flat spot on the top.

It all makes sense when you start jacking up the LCA. Get the bottom lined up then wiggle the top into place (or use a pry bar) as you slowly jack the LCA up.

Index the bottom of the spring into the LCA, there will be a noticeable indentation in the ring where it seats itself down into that notch. It may be full of crud, you just have to dig to find it. Let the top fall in where it wants to.

Keep in mind you truck has probably settled over the years. 30+ year old springs will get weaker over time. So, the front of your truck at stock height is probably about 1" lower before you start putting the springs in vs. where it was when it was new.

So, if you buy 2" dropped springs that's measured vs. stock height.. not sagged stock height. Dont be surprised if lets say you bought 2" drop springs and you only net about 1" drop compared to where you started. It's frustrating to put all that work into it hoping for 2" drop and then you let it down and it's barely 1" lower. Ask me how I know.

I always indexed them in the grove in the bottom LCA and let the top fall where it falls. Then when you drive it the first time and hit a few bumps you may here a pop but they will index themselves.
