700R4 Torque Converter choice
I have a 70 c10 it has a 383 with trick flow heads and a 700R4 with a stock torque converter. The truck is very sluggish off the line and at low Rpms. If I changed the converter to a higher stall would that help the engine be less sluggish at low rpms?
Other wise truck runs fine, in the beginning I went with a stock torque converter because I didn't want the engine to run hot. As a higher stall converter will run hotter, now I am willing to take that risk. So to recap 383/700R4 and 3.73 gear posi. How much of a stall would work best? Any ideas would be helpful Thank you |

I forgot to put in my cam specs
Competition Cams Cca-12-242-2 Lift: 224 int./230 exh. Duration: 268 int./280 exh. Crane cams rolling rockers Crn-11744-16 1.5 ratio My guess is 3100 stall? |
Re: 700R4 Torque Converter choice
According to the Comp Cams website, it's "best with a 2000+ stall" convertor.

Re: 700R4 Torque Converter choice
I have always had good luck with the factory S10 converters in 700r4's. The advertised stall speed is 2200 rpm. Some of the factory 700R4 converters were way down around 1300.

Re: 700R4 Torque Converter choice
My truck was 350,now 307,700r 3.08 rear and with the 3 something first gear is anything but sluggish off the line! It burns the tires off in first gear. If you change the converter wouldnt you loose forth gear lock up?
