Newbie questions.
Trading some work with a friend of mine for a 68 K20 SRW Wrecker. It has a 327 and 4speed. Originally a Custom Camper with CST.
1. I picked up some F*rd E350 wheels/tires for it. From what I've seen, early K20's had black steel wheels with no hub caps? Truck originally had 17" split rims, someone swapped on 16.5's. I wanted to go to a 16 for tire availability. 2. It's a full floater rear axle, would it be a dana 60? I didn't look underneath. 3. Assuming the trans is an SM465? Thank you!! https://image.ibb.co/kvBU87/image.jpg https://image.ibb.co/mQOWMS/image.jpg https://image.ibb.co/jGmkgS/image.jpg |
Re: Newbie questions.
Cool truck. Great patina. Good luck. Enjoy.

Re: Newbie questions.
Post pics of the trans & rear. Rear should be an Eaton HO52, trans should be a SM420 with a Rockwell 221 T-case (could be wrong here, I think GM switched to the 465/205 in 69 but it could have been 68?)
Cool truck, like it alot! |
Re: Newbie questions.
Thats a nice rig. From everything I have seen 67 was the last year for the sm420 so a sm465 should be the tranny it came with from the factory unless something else was ordered or changed. Are you sure it is a C20 it maybe a 30. Check the SPID to help verify. The manual lists a New Process NP435 as an optional close ratio tranny. Is it a leaf spring truck? Is the gray box on the hump the two way radio?

Re: Newbie questions.
It's a K20, leaf front/rear.
I didn't get any pics of the underside while I was there. I should have. Will the next time I'm there. I know the sm465, have one in my Jeep CJ. I didn't take a look, my bad. I'll also check the SPID. It's a low mileage truck, just under 60,000 miles. |
Re: Newbie questions.
Nice low mileage score. Here is a link to Novak's information page it should help with identification of the tranny. The good part of the wrecker in the back is most people won't ask you to help move. The bad part is it is too easy to drag stuff home.
