Not to steel the thread but are you putting this in your 68? Just curious how hard it was.

I don’t have any experience with this particular controller, but I remembered seeing this write up on using the stock PCM to control the trans only.

Just some food for thought

Do you mean how hard was it to put the 4L80E into the truck? Wasn't too bad at all. Easier than I thought it was going to be. Had to move the trans mount cross member to the rear most set of holes in the frame and then drill two new holes in the cross member about an inch rear of the stock ones for the trans mount. Used a stock 350 transmission shift yoke which hooked up to the stock shifter linkage. The emergency brake cable cleared every thing and ran between the trans pan and the trans mount. Had to shorten the drive shaft around 2 inches. It is a little tight in my low hump truck but it should be ok. Biggest problem was getting new trans cooler lines made and trying to decide on which trans controller to use. But then I am not driving yet.

Is that a stand alone kit from the factory? Never mind I googled the part number. 93 and newer, no programing and more than twice the price from here http://www.usshift.com/usq4.shtml

What are you doing for a speedo? I just went through this, went electronic cable-driving box, and wish I'd done the mechanical speedo tailhousing instead!

But the 4L80e needs a VSS to shift. Is there a part that will run both?

If you have a cable speedo tailbousing there are VSS with speedo cable passthrough. Just install the VSS with passthrough on trans, hook your speedo cable to the VSS. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/dak-sen-01-4160

I wonder where the factory got the VSS from with a cable speedo tailbousing? Off the speedo or is there a VSS built in somewhere?

Not sure what the perceived conflict is, but the tailhousing I'm speaking of adds the ring gear around the output shaft and then the driven gear and a port on the tailhousing for the speedo cable. I don't think the VSS is affected, because that's up on a different reluctor wheel I believe.

Both of the VSS sensors on a 80e are in the main body of the transmission.

Yeah, I have a 4L60-e out of my old 2WD 94 Suburban. But getting that rebuilt, new TC and a controller, we are talking enough $$ to buy a used late model 5.3L LS and 4L60e complete with harness and everything else.

HD2500, did you use a high hump when you did yours?
For the other questions, yes it is a factory stand alone controller.
I installed the mechanical speedometer tail shaft housing to use the stock speedo. The controller uses the vss on the transmission body for input and output speed.

The 19332780 controller is programmable. I am used to using HP Tuners with the factory Gen 3 computers and I really like all of the adjustment that's provided verses a controller with knobs to turn.

My truck is an original big block truck so yes it has the high hump. I have a ton of room and i would think the low hump would be fine.

Hi ,
I have a 68 C10 and my plans are to drop a LS3 with a 4L80e into it. I would really like to keep a column shifter. Do you know if there is linkage out there that will allow me to do that ?

davepl 05-12-2018 12:39 PM

Re: GM Trans controller 19332780 for 4L80E ?

I modified my existing linkage and it works perfectly with my 4L80E. I've posted pics somewhere, likely in my build thread as well. The pics won't be super-helpful, but might give you an idea.

Re: GM Trans controller 19332780 for 4L80E ?

I used a fork on the 4L80E transmission shaft from a 67-72 C10 with the turbo 350 and my stock powerglide linkage hooked right up to it.

TCI has a stand alone computer that is a plug and play system.I'm looking at 2 of the bullet proof transmissions for both of my 1968 longhorn and my 1972 3/4 ton *****en transmissions 4L80E

Re: GM Trans controller 19332780 for 4L80E ?

I have the TCI computer and 4L80E in my 402 Longhorn. Drives great, recommended. I went with a bone stock rebuilder special and stock torque converter for the trans. Sadly it looks like it was in a fire, the case is so ugly, but it drives fine.

If I had it to do over, I would pony up the outrageous $695 for the tail housing that accommodates a speedo cable. Otherwise you wind up with the TCI computer box controlling a little motorized box that spins the cable for you, and which costs around $700 in total when you're done. Go the cable route!

Where did you mount the main unit? Can you mount it in the engine compartment and still run the hand held inside the cab?

Re: GM Trans controller 19332780 for 4L80E ?

Mine is up under the dash. If you mounted in the engine compartment, I imagine they're weatherproof but am not 100% certain. The cord is long enough you can still use the handheld but I never did while driving anyway, so am not positive. I just set it up while parked and then test drove it. I didn't need to do any live tuning on the fly or anything.

Lokar has one. It's what I used. My column is from Ididit; but it mounts and works exactly like a factory column. The linkage is stainless. I bent mine as I have a shorter column for a power steering rack, but Lokar stuff has always fit and functioned great for me!
