327 Vin year
What year did they start to put Vin numbers on the engine block?
And are all 327 Vin in the same spot? |
Re: 327 Vin year
Never on trucks
|
Re: 327 Vin year
we all know that. most are all car blocks.
I am sure there was a few years with blank blocks |
Re: 327 Vin year
You are asking your question on a truck forum
|
Re: 327 Vin year
I think the 327 was available on the trucks from '65 to '68....to my recollection.
You won't find any of those with VIN numbers on the block tho', as already stated. As for the cars...who knows, late 50's? When did the 327 first appear...1960 to '62? Coley |

Re: 327 Vin year
A quick search on the inter webs say "the last 6 digits of the VIN were stamped into the blocks on Corvettes in 1961 or 1962. In 1964 GM stamped the last 6 #'s of the VIN in the higher HP motors i.e. 327-300HP and 409's. In 1968 the feds required all auto manufacturers to stamp identification #'s into blocks." Not sure why trucks of our area were exempt. Maybe due to the low HP? I know in the 70's when I was combing the wrecking yards for motors I never even considered a truck motor. Always the 327 with camel humps or LT1 motors. I guess in my ignorance at the time I could have missed the Factory 1967 L79 Corvette motors installed in the trucks lol.

Re: 327 Vin year
 You missed the '68 C/20 large Journal high nickle steel crank 327. One of the best small blocks for building. The same block/suffix code would be found on the '68 SS350 Camaro.
You also missed all the steel crank 4-bolt truck 350s through '75. Both are great motors to build. The latter is what I prefer for a 383 build |

I know what you're saying. I missed a lot. I also knew what would always be worth keeping, but had to let it go. Still doing it.

Re: 327 Vin year
Suffix code GA says it’s a 283.
http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-cod...s-suffix-5.php What’s the casting number? |
Re: 327 Vin year
Geezer's correct.....not a 327 engine given the GA suffix.
Its a '65, 283 (195hp)....looks from a full size car. Is that what you were expecting? or did someone say it was a 327? Coley |

67chevmall, you got a extra digit or a incorrect digit in there.
K05010 GA K= McKinnon Industries St. Catherines, Ontario 05= May 01= 1st 0= This is extra or incorrect(possible stamping error) GA= 1965, 66, 67 283ci or 1968 307ci or 1969 327ci. All Impala motors. If your extra 0 is a C then your suffix code is CGA CGA= 1971 350ci or 1975/6 262ci Can you double check your stamped application code(K05010GA) and get your casting number and date code off the block. Here is a pic showing locations. Attachment 1783689 |
