Heater Removal?
Is there a writeup about removing the heater (core, box, hoses, ETC...) from a 67-72 truck? I have seen delete plates discussed at length, but nothing about how to remove everything and what to do/not do. I assume its as simple as removing the components and capping the hoses, but I dont want to assume something that could cause my engine to get cooked.
Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I could not find quite what I was looking for. Perhaps it is just too simple of a question, but better to ask the experts here before tearing something out that could possibly cause engine damage. Thanks in advance! |
Re: Heater Removal?
I never used a Delete plate ,used Vintage Air ,but removal is easy and straight forward , just start taking it apart.

Re: Heater Removal?
There is a good YouTube vid on it.
Search c10 heater core You have to remove pass hood hinge but the process is real easy. |
Re: Heater Removal?
One heads up tip is to cut heater hoses off of heater core to remove them. They are most likely stuck or sealed onto the core and if you try to twist them off it usually breaks the heater core.

Re: Heater Removal?
Thanks for the replies.
I’m not sure I was clear enough before about my intentions. I’m talking about removing the heater components and tossing them and having a truck without a heater. It’s only an ice cream and cruise night car, so I could shed some weight and make the engine bay look better in the process. I’m basically asking if it’s as simple as “pull it all out, and don’t put it back on. Then cap off (or bridge with a small piece of hose?) the lines running to the heater core” |
Re: Heater Removal?
Yes just remove the box inside and out. As far as the hoses I remove the fittings from intake and water pump and put pipe plugs back in. That is on a small block so others may be different but I wouldn’t think so.
