Vintage Air Question - Installation - System Oil
 

I occasionally monkey around with A/C on diesel pickups and big trucks here at work. Typically replacing components, chasing leaks, fills and recharges, etc. Not an expert my any means but enough experience to figure them out and get them running.

I am surprised to see with my vintage air kit that it doesn't call for any oil to be added anywhere in the system during assembly/installation. The sanden compressor is marked as being prefilled with oil but I can't find in the instructions that oil is to be added anywhere else. I am used to having to add a few oz of oil to the dryer/accumulator, condenser when I rebuild/repair. A sterling truck I just worked on even had a spec for how much oil should be added to the hoses.

Did I miss something or does it really go together "dry?"

My Vintage Air system (in my Corvette) went in just as you described (pre-filled Sanden compressor) and has been working great for 3 years.

X2 - Only oil in the system was what came in the compressor. Been working great for several years.

Cool, thanks. I'm pretty excited about having A/C in my truck. It'll sure make it a lot more fun to drive. The missus will probably want to come out more often too (as long as the new drivetrain doesn't scare her to death).

LOL. Believe me, she's been more than patient with this build. I have referred to the truck as her "new kitchen." She knows its true and doesn't think its as funny as I do.

My wife was not happy about the $$$ spent on my vintage air, but she sure does appreciate it when she rides with me now lol. She’s 36 weeks pregnant. Oh, and same here with the oil, just what was in the compressor.

The V/A cost was a drop in the bucket for this latest truck revision but yeah, i bet its been fantastic to have down here the last couple weeks!
