Quick wheel question
 

Alright guys just want to make 136% sure that I have this right. I have a 71 2wd. I just sold the aftermarket wheels off it that came on the truck when I bought it. Im looking to just get some steel wheels for now to get me by until I decide to drop a dump truck worth of cash on the final wheels.


Chevy & GMC 1/2 Ton Trucks (2WD) '88-'98
Will I run into any problems with getting some steel wheels off these guys? Is the Backspace and offset good so they will look like the belong on there? Fitting and then fitting correctly are two different things.

The truck does run and drive and is capable of doing Highway speeds. Just want to make sure I won't run into any problems. Everything I have read online and on here looks to be that I won't have any I just wanted to be 136% sure.

Unless I'm remembering this incorrectly as it may only possibly apply to the 88-98 6 lug wheels but I'm rather sure it's the same with the 5 lug wheels. The 88-98 hubs are smaller than the 67-72 so the center opening on rims will be to small a diameter to fit over your current hubs.

73-86 square body 5 lugs will fit just fine. Plentiful and pretty cheap

They only fit half tons. The question was originally for 3/4 ton eight lug...

Any insight on this? I'm no wiz when it comes to wheels but this makes it seem like they have the same hub size?

Im looking for 5x5 1/2 ton to my knowledge. I defiantly don't have eight lug:confused:

When GM switched to the 5 lug rim on the 2x4 trucks in '71 they reduced the pilot hole size. The 4x4 kept the old larger pilot. In '88 on the 1/2 ton 4x4 and light duty 6 lug 3/4 ton trucks they used the same small pilot hole as the 2x4 trucks.

So, the 6 lug 4x4 rims from '88 and up will NOT fit an earlier solid axle truck. But the 88 and up 5 on 5 2x4 rims should work just fine. And the 8 lug wheels keep the same pilot and lug pattern through 2010 I believe before it went metric.

I think you nailed it. The only problem I have spotted on the 80's rims on the earlier trucks is back spacing. The newer rims kinda look goofy on older trucks.
