My 70 C10 Project 2nd Exhaust issue
I finally bought a new exhaust manifold for this inline 250 off Amazon. As some others have said, the casting is rough, however it is straight as an arrow and seems to mate up well. As I started pulling the hardware out of the box the previous owner had given me, I found that I had 2 long manifold clamps and 3 short ones. First the original manifold was cracked, as was the 2nd one he gave me, now I am missing one short clamp. Is it true that nobody makes these anymore ? If so what have you guys found to be the best substitute if I cannot locate a clamp ? This truck was 80-90% complete when the owner quit on it 12 years ago. New paint, engine rebuilt at a machine shop locally, then never had the bolt-on parts put back on it and cranked. I am anxious to see if it will run. Thanks for any advise on buying a clamp or making one.

Re: My 70 C10 Project 2nd Exhaust issue
Maybe there are some of those clamps in the "HELP!" section at the parts store?

Re: My 70 C10 Project 2nd Exhaust issue
If you search for "Chevy intake exhaust manifold clamps" on ebay, there's a number of used sets available.

Re: My 70 C10 Project 2nd Exhaust issue
Those are not the correct ones. The one I need has the hole exactly in the center. Thank you though.

Re: My 70 C10 Project 2nd Exhaust issue
I've modified extra thick washers to fit in when I couldn't find special stuff like that.

Re: My 70 C10 Project 2nd Exhaust issue
I may have to if I can't find something in a week or two. I thought about making one from 1/2' bar stock too. But I really want a matching clamp if I can buy one.

Junkyard or someone reading this thread. To bad you didn't include "Inline Six" in the title. You need the '62 and later clamp bars as the earlier Stovebolt Engine bars are different.
I know I don't have any as I used only the short ones with the tube headers and Clifford intake. I had to hit the wrecking yard to get all I needed. Don't forget to look for 250 car engines and get all the factory studs you can find. I used eight factory studs for the header installation. |
Re: My 70 C10 Project 2nd Exhaust issue
I hit the Salvage Yards within 35 miles of me and had no luck. I will start going another 30 miles next week. I am just hoping someone has one laying around they might want to sell because they have no further use for it. The small one in your picture is exactly what I need. Thanks for posting it.

Re: My 70 C10 Project 2nd Exhaust issue
I just got home. Been out of town at a funeral. This morning I accepted an offer
For a full set of clamps, delivered for $23. They were from aspenautoaz. They sell 60s and 70s truck parts and were great to work with. Thank you to 70stovebolt and others who looked for or found one for more. This is a great group of people who always try to help. |
