Tall valve covers
I just dropped the cab onto my frame and I can’t get the cab mount holes to line up, the valve covers are hitting the fire wall. I have tall valve covers on my small block motor but I wouldn’t think that would be a problem. This is not a new or different cab, it’s the same one that came with the truck which was completely stock. I will say that I had the motor mount frame brackets out, could they be in backwards, I don,t know if that’s even possible. Any ideas.

Your motor mounts could very well be in backwards, that would push your whole drivetrain back a couple inches. Just yesterday my buddy found out that he's been driving his Pontiac around like that for a year. He always wondered why the distributor was hitting the firewall.
Does it look like you have a LOT of room between the fan and the radiator? You should be able to fit tall valve covers on these trucks. |

Look at your frame rails. If there is another set of holes in front of where your mounts are now, move them forward. Sounds like you put the mounts in the wrong location.

It’s been said, but I’ll say it again.
Your frame came from the factory with the engine mounts installed for an I-6. Grind off the rivets and move the mounts to the forward position, bolt them in, and all your problems will be solved.:metal: I just hope you didn’t already cut your driveshaft to fit. |

Thanks for the post's, I think I know what I messed up, I think I put the cross member on backwards. There seems to be an offset from center of the motor mount bolt holes on the cross member that I didnt notice when I took it off the frame. I might also be off on the frame bolt holes' I'll post a couple of pictures when I get out of work and maybe some one can tell me what I did wrong. I just want to say I don't post much but I use this sight alot and I just want to say you guy's are top notch, if it wasn't for past threads and the knowledge of everyone who contributes I wouldn't have gotten half as far as I have on this build so thanks.

I’m not sure why there is only one bolt hole on the passenger side, there’s 2 on the drivers side which would make sense but the 2 forward bolt holes measure an inch different to the front of the frame.

The 4WD's mount in the rear holes. Yours looks correct. My '70 K20 cross member mounting bolts are in the same location as yours. My valve covers are close with stock covers.

How about the crossmember the motor mount holes seem to be offset to the rear of the vehicle is that correct also?

Thanks for the picture. I’m pretty sure I installed the crossmember wrong Yours appear to have the motor mount hole offset towards the front. Hopefully I can rotate without pulling the motor out. :waah:
