A/C Solenoid
The previous owner added A/C to my 67 but they did not install a Solenoid to increase the RPM when the A/C is turned on. Does anyone know where I can purchase a kit?

Re: A/C Solenoid
Do you need it? I have a stock 70 that never had a solenoid and the engine idle really isn't affected when I turn on the AC.

Re: A/C Solenoid
I have three of these trucks currently, all have functioning factory AC. None of them have a solenoid and the idle change is hardly noticeable as stated above.

Re: A/C Solenoid
The engine has a pretty good sized cam in it so it is a pretty lumpy idle to begin with, it does ok when the A/C is on and in park or neutral, but if I put it in gear and I am at a stop it will stall after about 30 seconds. I have raised the idle but then the idle is up above 1k when the A/C is off and not in gear.

Re: A/C Solenoid
Knowing the proper name for a part is always helpful during a search.. A simple "step up solenoid" search yielded this: https://www.holley.com/products/fuel...ge/parts/46-74

Re: A/C Solenoid
Summit. I’ve installed one. Make sure to wire it in with a relay. The initial on for the solenoid draws amps.

Re: A/C Solenoid
Oh yeah think it was called idle up solenoid.

Re: A/C Solenoid
Go to a junk yard and take one off a full size car. That will save you about $90

Re: A/C Solenoid
Not sure about a 67, but I just learned the the solenoid on my 72 350 4bbl with A/C is NOT to increase idle speed when the A/C is turned on. Instead, on a 72 (and maybe other years as well), it is adjusted against the throttle lever at idle, then when the engine is shut down it retracts and allows the throttle plate to close a little more, to prevent dieseling. That explains a lot to me because I couldn't figure why it actuated as soon as it was connected to the solenoid, regardless of whether the A/C was on or off.

Re: A/C Solenoid
^ In which case it is called an "anti-dieseling" solenoid.

Re: A/C Solenoid
My 69 Corvette had one that increased rpm when A/C was turned on and I assumes they all did that.
