Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
Trying to fab up a exhaust to replace the original single exhaust system. Can anyone confirm the Outside diameter of the front Y pipe ? I can’t believe how difficult it is to replace such a basic system. I was quoted $800.00 by my only local shop...crazy

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
I would also like to know about Y pipe options. Is a pre-made kit not available? I would like to get rid of my dual exhaust system and go with one muffler like it originally had.

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
Try walker brand, on my 71 small truck, I was able to buy the stock type y pipe through advance auto, and it was a much better price than you were quoted

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
I believe the walker Y pipe has been discontinued, but I have a few at home And i can get you the part number to search.

I have bought Y pipes for my 4x4 71-72 trucks from Waldron exhaust. They make complete exhaust systems, or you can just order the y pipe. They have nice stuff. http://www.waldronexhaust.com/ |
Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
Thanks Joe $415.00 for a complete single system...appreciate your help..Jack

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
Please let us know if you get this and how does it work out for you. If you could give us pictures and how-to info right here it would be much appreciated. I am wondering if the system fits without a heat riser valve, or requires one, or is optional to fit either way. My truck used to have one, but it was removed and disposed of by the guy who installed my dual exhaust glass pack system.

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
Is there a difference in the exhaust manifolds from 67-72?

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
Guys I looked my original Y pipe over good and determined to reuse it. When the weather improves and this event passes I will have a local shop duplicate the rest....wishing everyone a healthy future

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
If you're able I would love to see pictures as you go, and see how the pipe is routed. I am interested in going from dual exhaust to regular stock type setup with a single muffler. You'd probably have the first documented picture/how-to post anywhere of a single exhaust pipe on a V-8 on one of these trucks.

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
I will post photos while the truck is at the exhaust shop. My original Y pipe was actually in pretty good condition so I just decided to keep it single.

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
I would be very interested in pictures as well. My y-pipe exits the driver side. The passenger side down pipe routes around the starter and crosses over to meet the driver side down pipe. most of the pictures I've seen the driver side down pipe crosses over to meet the passenger side down pipe. I have a 350cid/TH350 if that makes a difference.

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
Mine crosses over to the drivers side. I will try to get a photo. Rock auto did show they had it in stock

Re: Stock 71 V8 Y Pipe Help ?
It will make a difference if you have a standard trans or an automatic. Remember the cross members are different and in different places.
