454 belt routing? Power steering around water pump and crank?
3 Attachment(s)
Putting a 454 in my 71 C-10.I have a 3 groove pulley on the crank, 2 groove pulley on the Long water pump, so I have the alt belt crank to water pump to alternator. Does the P/S pump go from crank to P/S, or Crank to Water pump to P/S
Makes sense to have both belts to the water pump in case one breaks it will still cool down the motor, at least till the battery runs out of juice. Thanks Guys! |

I'm going to say yes. I am not an expert at the 73 up big block stuff. My 68 (396)just used the crank and PS pulleys only. It had a smog pump on it at one time, that may have had something to do with that deal. PS belt on mine was tough to keep tight. When I get the 396 resurrected, I will change that situation.
Your PS belt looks perfectly aligned with that groove on the WP. I'd definitely get a longer belt to do it that way!!! |

Either way. If you had AC then the groove you are in would be used for that and the PS would be in the back-- crank to PS only and the AC would just catch about 1/5th of the PS pulley on the outside

On my 454 that came out of a '78, I have that belt going around the PS pump, water pump, and the crank.
