Tee at PCV
 

Hello all. I've mentioned previously about getting my '72 back into running shape and while I'm at it, redoing some things a younger me couldn't justify. As such, I'm looking into new hoses and lines to refresh a bit under the hood.

While my knowledge of engine innerworkings is less than some and more than others, I'm trying to learn more and actually fully understand how they all play together. Can someone explain what this tee near the PCV should go to on my '72 350 Q-jet or if I can remove the tee altogether and just run the line into the PCV?

Probably to the vapor canister, to pull the fuel fumes off the charcoal. Is there a canister there, anymore?

I don’t believe that hose configuration is original. The original hose from carb to PCV vale did have a provision to connect to vapor can. Small diameter hose.

Looking closer shows the vac hose port right there by the choke stove.

I had a SMOG license back in the day, but I guess I've been away from it long enough that I'm forgetting these things. And my truck is a big block 3/4T so didn't get a canister.

Right you are! After looking at it further this evening, I saw the hose laying there. Any reason to hook it back up? Someone disconnected it for a reason. The canister is there, I wonder if that might have a vac leak and was making the carb run bad.

The picture is cut off on the left. At the top left is the fresh air intake hose - that feeds fresh air into the valve cover from the air cleaner. On the opposite valve cover is you PCV valve. It should feed directly into the large port on the front of your carb. If you don't have an evap canister there's no need for any other connection on the PCV system.

Funny you should ask about a Tee on the PVC line. My current QJet (Carter) from a earlier truck (PO put it on) has a provision for it but I am sure my number matching Qjet (Rochester) does not. It is off to be properly rebuilt and tweaked for performance for a pretty penny. So I was on the hunt for a Tee that would fit the larger PVC and the small hose for the Fuel Vapor Canister (got a brass one off Amazon).

My guess, is someone used what he had on hand, Instead of going to get hose that reach, he used the 2 hoses and tee to hook the pcv to the carb, and another hose to the tee to close off the tee.
I have done stuff like this on the cheap winter car, that I don't want to spend money on. Over I'd go to the "junk" box of extra hoses, and such.
