Bed Wood Finish

OK, I've been testing colors for my bed wood recently and think I finally found what I may move forward with. Picture included with my inspiration. Wanted something a bit different but would still work with whatever color I may choose for the truck down the road.

Obviously this is all subjective, but I think that color looks great! The only hang-up being that it might clash against a bright red or orange.

Thank you. While I don’t know exactly what color I’ll go with I do know orange or reds are out. I’ve waffles from a color close to the stock vermillion to medium blue to root beer brown.

Picking colors is one of the hardest things to do after spending all the time and money rebuilding these old trucks and picking the wrong colors can turn bad real quick . I keep falling into the project creep trap and consider different colors weekly , I have a set of Ash and a set of Black Walnut which do I use on what truck ?

Grumpy,
Ah, black walnut is one of my favorites. My grandfather worked exclusively in black walnut and had me turning it on a lathe by the age of nine. I can still tell it when I smell it.

Tough decisions but I’m guessing dark wood in light colored truck and light wood in dark? I don’t know, I’d change my mind a dozen times.

I think what I'm going to do is use the method Foose did by making my own stain thinning the 503 green paint using acetone and the Ash bed wood with a bone smooth high gloss clear over it , I'm thinking it will really show off the grain , be the perfect match to the paint and something you don't see on every other truck . :smoke:
