help identifying short or long water pump

2 Attachment(s)
Im visiting my brother out of state and he is giving me a ton of new parts for my SBC. I was just hoping someone could identify what my water pump is. These are the only pics I have of mine and I cant measure it since I am not home. I just didn't want to take parts that didn't fit.

If it helps the pictures show my truck. The alternator sits high on the drivers side, power steering pump sits right under that. My truck use to have the AC compressor on the passengers side but that was removed by the PO. Any help would be great. Thank you

Is it possible to have a BB short water pump on a SBC engine? Because according to the picture my would be a BB water pump. Am I looking at it wrong? Its also weird that my truck is a 1972 which states they switched to the long water pump. My short block 350 was turned into a 383 though so maybe that's the reason for the above mentioned. I just don't know though. Hopefully I can learn something new

No. Some of the Short Water pumps are drilled and some are not

Yours is drilled, and has a plug in it.

Here is a 307, same water pump as 350, short water pump and plugged

Cars had long pumps starting in 69. Trucks had long pumps starting in 73.

You're looking at it wrong.. BBC and SBC water pumps are NOT interchangeable.. Some of the SBC engines in the larger trucks had a bypass running from the intake manifold just below the thermostat to a nipple installed in the water pump where that plug is on your pump...

That would be when 454 engines started getting installed in trucks? The reason I ask is because I'm looking to replace the 402 in my truck, as it is getting tired. If there is a 454 with a short pump like my truck has, that would be great. Otherwise I'll have to move the engine back, and that's not a pleasant prospect.

Use all of the brackets and pullies from your 402 and your golden. 402=454 in external dimensions

Thanks for the info! I posted a WTB earlier. I'm looking to increase power without going bonkers expensive.
