Just one thing, and then another….
It was raining today so all outside tasks were put on hold.
A few weeks ago I switched out my Heater controls in my 70. Should have been real easy, but it turned into a two-day task, when I broke the fan control arm knob off.:devil: Anyway I got that fixed and with advice from other members, I clean and lubed everything up.:metal: Anyway, I realized I needed to clean and lube the Heater Door. Easier said than done.:smoke: I took off the tire, unbolted the inner fender, (an all day task when dealing with 52year old fasteners)and gained access to the Door control. It literally takes 2 minutes to clean and lube it at that point.:lol: While I have it all apart, I took a few other brackets off cleaned them, and gave them a coat of black paint. Tomorrow, I put it all back together. My plan is to take the old girl out for Sunday afternoon drive. :chevy: |

Perseverance pays with these trucks. "Easier said than done" is the theme here. But we get a larger sense of accomplishment once through it, right? I said... right?? :lol:

The last thing I did last night, was come to the realization that I’m going to be taking the whole front clip off, to make sure there’s no hidden rust, and just to “Condition” the fasteners. I’ve got my list of parts compiled so that I can finally get the old girl finished (famous last words:smoke:)

Been down that road, put in a never popped kit in the heater controls. Yea I was back again doing the heater core. Back a couple years ago those things were only 45 buck.

I hear you on the inner fender removal. I wanted to change or get my heater core rebuilt and did the inner fender removal a couple weeks ago. My truck is very clean so with patience and a can of WD40 by my side the bolts came out fairly easily. As it goes u start one thing and then there is the "while I'm at it " syndrome that always rears its head. So considering I'm getting an engine built for my truck and it'll be detailed and looking brand new I thought well why dont I take off the other side and either paint or get em powder coated. I did that and there some rust flaking on the drivers side one. So took em to powder coater and he sends a pic of the rust spot so picked it up and off to get repaired. Repair is done now and picking it up in the morning to take back for powder coating.

Be careful what you start. That rabbit hole runs deep. That dirty part looks bad next the that freshly painted part and soon the the whole truck is blown apart.

Just be glad you were able to reuse the original parts. It would have taken much longer to install the China reproductions
On my drivers side inner fender the foot long support bracket, that bridges the inner fender where the steering rod goes through, would not line up close enough to get the bolts in. They were more than 1/2" off. This was a PITA to slot enough so they wouldn't show. Only 4 bolts and they are supposed to be in a straight line. How difficult can that be? |
