I can't pass up a good project
:smoke: I heard my neighbor banging around out in his garage He has 2-71 long beds and a 68 thats been in his garage for about 30 years with stuff stacked all over it . so I walked over to see what he was up to ,He's in his 70's and occasionally scraps engines he picks up from a number of local shops and he breaks them down for the heavy Aluminum / steel scrap , So I was looking thru his latest haul and found an intact Troy bilt horse rear tine tiller , If you've ever used one from the 70's they are built like a tank , They are still sold new today for about $2,300.00 ... So I had to dig it out and I look in the gas tank and it's clean and dry , Tires are good ,the tines are good , So I pulled the cord and it has good compression , So , Before i go to far I ask him if it's for sale , He says "It needs new belts and they cost to much so I'm going to scrap it for the steel " ;) I bought it for $50.00 dumped some gas in it and it fired up on the first pull :metal: I already ordered the belts and new decals for it after I presure wash it today and change all the fluids shoot some new paint on it and its a quick fix and flip for a couple extra bucks , Way better than ending up in the scrap yard ! I know there has to be a few guys in here that spent hours behind one of these tillers ? I'll post a couple pictures when the sun comes up . :chevy:

Great find. Yeah, I've "walked" behind one before. They would advertise showing a picture of a guy using one hand. They are great and older is better. The only thing better is an old David Bradley, which my dad had. Another great thing brought to us by the once great American institution of Sears & Roebuck

Very timely score! It's time to start getting those gardens in!

Re: I can't pass up a good project
Spent many an hour behind one of those tillers, Grumpy. Used to borrow one from my FIL when wife and I were first married and we started a garden. The bit of one handed operation is a true fact I can attest to. Used to hold a cold beer in one hand and till with the other. Had to set the beer down to make a turn tho but picked it up on the next pass.
Great tillers and looks like you made a great save there. Still have the tiller we received after my FIL passed. Haven't gardened in some time now as just wife and I my gardening consists of a few tomato and onions in an old stock tank converted to a raised garden bed. Have been thinking of getting the tiller started up again and selling it. Just really don't need a big garden like we used to do. |

Nice score! Wish it was one of the trucks.

Re: I can't pass up a good project
Good score! I had an ancient Ariens my mother gave me years ago to the point it was worn slap out. Used it for years and it was an old unit when I got it. Heavy built and worked like a champ.

Re: I can't pass up a good project
My grandmother has one that I still use, I'll have to get a picture of it this afternoon when I'm over there. I did have to replace the engine and tines a few years back.

Re: I can't pass up a good project
I have one of those old tillers. My dad used to borrow one from a neighbor for our garden, when they moved he used classifieds and calling around to find one for sale. I have it now, needs some work but it does run.
