What Steps Do I Take Going About Installing The Bed Wood On My 69 C10?

The Woods Painted. Do I Keep Everything Loose Then Bolts The Tailgate on Then Tighten Everything?

Any Help Would Be Appreciated

Is the rear cross sill still welded to the sides to keep the box square? If it is you can install the wood and strips without the tailgate on. On the one wood floor truck I did, I left all the strips loose until all the wood was in and then started tightening down everything.

Im Not Sure If Its Welded. I Have All The Panels On The Box Loose

Are you converting from a metal floor? Replacing the rear crosmember and front bed panel?

I built an entire wood floor bed from parts.
Put it all together except the bedwood, strips and wheelhouses.
Then I made sure everything lined up.
Took the tailgate back off and painted everything.
Did like camaroboy68ss says and put all the wood and strips in loose to get everything gapped 'equally' and then started tightening.
Then I put the rear wheelhouses in and the tailgate back on.

Get ready for 10 million bolts to tighten. I did mine not long ago.

If you have a step side bed, you will need to loosen the step supports to tighten two of the bed bolts. I took out the two top bolts and loosened the two smaller bolts that go down through the step into the support, and this let me move the support out of the way for removing those two bolts - I took my bed wood out yesterday for refinishing.

Jeffahart I was looking through your writeup and it reminded me of something I did on mine. If you use the Mar-K cross sills they have square holes to capture the carriage bolts that attach the bed to the frame. You can then rout out the wood for the bolt head and not have them visible on your bed floor.

That's a great option for a clean look. I will probably do exactly that next time I replace my wood. :chevy:
