Door Skins
 

Just wanting to know if anyone has used one of these aftermarket door skins and if you liked them?? I think that Goodmark offers one? Just want some input before I go and buy one. :bowtie:

I know this isn't an answer to your question, but here is a lower door repair using an inner door shell repair panel and the lower part of the outer skin made from an old hood.

Do you show this in your DVD repair video????? I've been thinkin' about getting it.....

I have a door that needs some rust repair also. I plan to go efabman's route with just the lower portion. I have seen some really nice trucks at shows that have big problems with the doors. Mainly the lock not being in the correct location. Looks terrible especially if they have upper trim. I don't know if they were repro doors or skins (didn't want to ask the owner and stomp all over his truck), But I plan to stick with as much original sheetmetal as I can.

We put a pair of Goodmark door skins on my son's truck about 4 yrs. ago when he was redoing his truck. I think when he bought them they were about $130-140 each. I'll try and attach a picture of the left side...hope this works.

I bought 2 skins from GMC Paul at a swap meet for I think$120
They look pretty straight forward to put on.He said just grind off
the edge on bottom & both sides & cut the strip between the vent & glass,drill out the spot wlds & pop them off,BUT I haven't tried to tackle that project yet!! I bought both for about 1/2 what one new door would cost from him. I hope this helps a little.

I forgot to mention that the skins had three holes punched in them for the factory mirrors (the round ones on the single arm) that we had to weld shut. As mentioned above, we ground off the old skin on the sides and the bottom to remove the old one, then punched holes and spot welded the new ones on. My brother in law (body man all his life) said they were as good of quality as the GM ones he used to use when he worked for Chevrolet when these trucks were new. I compared the thickness of the metal and the new ones weren't as thick.

If I can ever afford a welder, I really want efabman's dvds!!!!!!

Heck, I'd buy the DVD's if I could afford them, and I don't even have a welder! (I'm a poor college kid that wishes he had tons of money to buy all the cool DVD's, literature, and parts).:D

Thank you for the appreciation of my work. I really just wanted to show that a door that is rusted only at the bottom could be fixed. I too think keeping as much of the original sheet metal as possible is probably the best.
