Just a thought:
I was just thinking that if the rubber in the tranny mount compressed with age, an 1/8" drop at the tranny mount would give you about the same at the dizzy.It might be normal for them to be close but couldn't the tranny mount be raised slightly (shimmed at the frame) to tilt the motor up, which would give the dizzy more clearance?
