It's not supposed to be a ball stud for the kick-down. Its more of a post with a groove cut around it. It looks like a PO swapped carbs and didn't bother trying to match up the linkage. Usually you have to loosen the kick-down cable bracket or loosen the carb in order to slipt the end over the post on the carb. Thats so it doesn't slip off while driving.
