Re: Poll SWB OR SHORT STEP LONG WIDE OR LONG STEP
I prefer the Short Fleetside, but an anyone may have learned, there are times when a long box is preferred.
When GM came out with the long Fleetside boxes in '58 (yeah, I know there had been long beds before), people who used trucks as trucks but also liked the new styling (ala Cameo), went nuts. I have owned long and short fleetsides, as well as long and short stepsides. The proportion of the long step side is odd, to me. Long Fleetsides can look really clean, when lowered.
It's all a matter of personal preference. Look at NADA's old vehicle price guide and you'll find that a LWB Fleetside has a higher price than the SWB Fleetside. The pricing is based on sales data, which can be skewed by a "ringer" of a sale being noted and used for documentation. Historically, as far as our hobby is concerned, SWB trucks sell for more than LWB trucks do. This doesn't mean there are no nice LWB trucks, whether Fleetside, Stepside or Longhorn.....au contraire, mon ami. There are lots of nice vehicles out there.
