Okay, here's the voice of experience speaking. I've provided a couple pics for you based on what I've learned. I started out with my shifter all the way forward because I didn't know it was adjustable. That is why you see the shifter mounted all the way back now and the big hole in front of it. I would recommend that you mount the shifter on the rails using one of the last couple holes as your baseline. I've used a red circle indicating where you might want to cut a hole, but if you place the shifter all the way back on the rails, there's no reason to cut there. Use my shifter placement as a guide for where you'll put yours and I'm sure you'll do well. Let me know if I can help answer more questions.
