Jack the truck up by the frame (not by the lower control arm) and see if you can wiggle the tire. With it kicking out that bad I'd doubt its the shims, looks more like ball joints. If you can wiggle the tire back and forth the ball joints are shot. Be carefull doing this. It could also be bad wheel bearings (also evident by wiggling the tire) but I would think that would make some kind of squealing sound. Something is definately off though.
