I have never seen a 71/72 glovebox sticker that had it from the factory, not saying there aren't any, I just haven't seen it (but would like to).
I also have the GM restoration packet for a 71 that lists all the RPO codes that could be ordered and it does not list cruise control in it all. That is the main reason I think that it was a dealer installed option. I think if you would have special ordered a 71 or 72 truck and wanted cruise control it would have been added after the truck was shipped to the dealer and thats why you see 71/72's with factory cruise but its not listed on the glovebox sheet.
Rod knows a lot about cruise control for 67-72 trucks and sums it up pretty well in the link I posted earlier from the FAQ section.
