The heads were drilled in 69, and remained drilled the same way untill the 90's when the vortec heads came onto the scene, then they deleted a hole. The trucks retained the short pump till the end of 72, and vette's did for some time after that.
basicly, it doesn't matter. If you have old heads with holes, you can go short or long.
