I helped a friend do that same thing in his Blazer. A year before the Blazer, my buddy had built a complete dash for a '69 Branco that had been hashed by the PO. We were going to do a complete dash in the Blazer until he bought a nicer glove box door at the swap meet.

We took the old door and used a similar setup with Autometer gauges, only in the factory locations. I wish I could find pictures.

That is a very clean look.
