Pertronix replaces the points, and is very simple.

2 wires, both can go directly to coil (1 is ign, other is trigger)

I did this on a VW sandrail ~7yrs ago at a camp ground. 1 engine rebuild later, and years of abuse I never had to touch it again. Was best $$ i spent. Worth the money for sure.
