I have a 2004r from a 86 monte ss. I going to mod some of the internals soon to see how much more I can get out of it. Its supposed to have a lower first then a 700 for a better launch. The monte ss's came with 3.73 rears but had smaller tires. I put it in at the same time as my new rear I when from a th350 and a 3.08 gear to the 2004r with a 3.73 gear, without lockup on the highway was almost the same rpm. With lockup a little lower. Only have to move the crossmember the holes are the the driveshaft fits. Hope this rambling helps
