You could put a 283 or 327 in it. These trucks originally came with them. Transmissions really depends on if you have the high hump transmission tunnel or the low version. The muncie 4 speeds that came in these trucks used the high hump. One out of a car might be different. Hope this helps a little. I am by no means a master of these trucks.
