I don't realy get why the thing was duct taped together. The whole design leaks everywhere anyway.........I would just clean it and paint it. There is a flapper door in there to direct the airflow up to the defroster and it isn't perfect, so some air gets bypassed to the floor area anyhow.. I usualy split the differences between defrost and floor after getting de-iced in the morning anyhow, so a little leak here and there is nothing to worry about.
