tommy,if you're going to do brakes,i suggest you go with a new M/C and new wheel cylinders also.They will probably run you $100-150 but will be the begining of a solid brake system.There's actually nothing wrong with drum brakes for normal use.They do tend to fade a bit when repeatedly used such as city stop and go driving.The HEI I used in my 250 cost me $25.00 at the JY.
When you do the brakes a kit with new springs and retainer parts is a good idea.The old ones are probably 30 years old.
