I just went through something similar with my 68 with a 250 six. I bought an electronic ignition off ebay, bought the factory set of wires for a 1975 truck with a six and electronic ignition from Auto Zone - instead of rebuilding my original 1 bbl carb I exchanged it for a remanufactured replacement from AutoZone also - think the carb was about $130 so not too bad. Timed it to factory specs with the light. I did all this and put some miles on it on the freeway because it had just been lugged around on a farm forever and had alot of carbon build up. It's running great now, passed the strict emission guidelines they have here in the Phoenix area.
