I don't think it can be done..I could be wrong. I would think the main leaf in the pack is arched for 6" along with the additional leafs. I would assume some of the shorter leafs may be interchangable but the main leaf is not.
Also the springpacks are built to work togeahter. The packs you see with only 3-4 leafs are built with thicker leafs, the packs with 5-7 leafs have thinner ones. If you start removing leafs from the pack the pack become weaker. I have seen spring packs fail/break on the trail so makin them weaker is not something I would want to flert with.
