are you talking a carb spacer under the carb, or are you talking about an air filter spacer that fits under the ait filter?
Having a breather and PCV valve on the same side is better than nothing, but not by much. You want fresh air on one valve cover, be it a simple breather, or a tube to the air cleaner/air cleaner spacer, and you want a PCV on the other valve cover run to full manifold vacume, be it the carb, the carb spacer, or a large port on the intake.
